The most common problem that you will encounter with a motor is when voltage has been applied and the shaft does not turn. This can occur with the three-phase or single-phase motor. The problems that cause this symptom are the loss of voltage to the motor and an open circuit somewhere in the circuit including the voltage supply and the motor windings. You can test for voltage at all terminal points and where the loss has occurred.
