INTRODUCTION

This guide reflects the rapid changes that are taking place within the electronics industry. In particular, we have to recognize that much of the equipment that requires servicing will be of older design and construction; by contrast, some modern equipment may require to be replaced under guarantee rather than be serviced. We also need to bear in mind that servicing some older equipment may be totally uneconomical, because it will cost more than replacement. With all this in mind, this new edition still provides information on older techniques, but also indicates how modern digital systems work and to what extent they can be serviced.
